Safe Routes To School
        A PAT Program for the Tri-City Area
 
Five Year Plan- Five Phases
 
Phase I:
1. Develop and present both bicycle and pedestrian safety programs; target grade will be second or third
2. Pilot school will be chosen from PUSD, HUSD, CVSD
3. Evaluations will be given and results will contribute to future programs
 
Phase II:
1. Refine and present both bicycle and pedestrian safety programs; grade used will have been determined in Phase I
2. Programs to be offered to all elementary schools in the three districts
3. Evaluations will be given and results will contribute to future programs
 
Phase III:
1. Form coalition of the following: PAT; local government (elected officials; law enforcement; department of transportation); school districts; teachers
2. Identify existing safe routes for all schools
3. Present information to each school
 
Phase IV:
1. Continue coalition
2. Identify potential and promising safe routes
3. Work closely with government officials to develop new safe routes
4. Present information to each school
 
Phase V:
1. Continue work begun in Phase IV by identifying new safe routes
2. Work closely with government officials to develop new safe routes
3. Work with schools to identify complementary programs (E.G. science-related; health-related)
4. Evaluate entire program and continue
