Prescott Alternative Transportation
Students started Helping Understand Bicycles, HUB, at Prescott College several years ago. Their mission says it best: "HUB is a coalition committed to promoting bicycles as a fun and sustainable form of transportation that is accessible to individuals of any age, class, race or gender. This goal has manifested in the form of a community bicycle workspace. We offer workspace, tools, bicycle maintenance workshops, the use of reclaimed bike parts and bicycle related events. Through these projects HUB also seeks to build bridges between the greater Prescott community, the local cycling community and Prescott College."
Thus far HUB has organized group rides; hosted bike-in movie screenings; acquired its own building from Prescott College for refurbishing and storing bikes and bike parts; provided bike maintenance clinics. They have begun working with Catalyst Infoshop on creating a bike rental program, where bikes are free if you place a deposit (which is returned to you when the bike is returned).
Ø HUB offers free community bike tools, use of workspace and mechanical assistance. HUB offers reclaimed bicycle parts in exchange for trade work or minimal monetary payment.
Ø HUB hosts events to promote the use of bicycles. Past events have included bike-in-movies, maintenance workshops, bike raffles, and community bike rides.
Ø HUB is located at the intersection of Grove and Sheldon behind Prescott College Student Services building. For hours and information:
